Bank of Africa takes over Amalbank
Mali’s biggest commercial bank, Bank of Africa is set to take over the management and operations of one of Ghana’s indigenous banks, AmalBank, after acquiring about 60% stake in the bank.
Amalbank thus become the latest member of the Bank of Africa Group, which has operations in 13 other African countries including Burundi, Benin, Djibouti, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Mali, Madagascar, Niger, Uganda, DR Congo and Senegal. The bank also has operations in France. Currently, the Group has about 2,000 employees, nine commercial banks, three leasing companies, two life-insurance companies, two investment companies, one stockbrokerage firm, one representative office in Paris, and one IT subsidiary.
