Three firms invest $30 million in cotton production
Ghana's cotton industry has received a boost from a multi-million dollar investment package from three commodity marketing companies. The companies, OLAM Ghana, ARMAJARO and WIENCO have collaborated to inject US$30 million into the cotton sector under a new "White Gold" initiative. Under the arrangement, the three commodity marketing giants are to invest some US$10 million each in the production and marketing of the commodity.
The companies will pre-finance farmers through the provision of inputs such as seeds, fertilisers and chemicals. Field officers will also be deployed to offer farmers the necessary technical support and the extension services. The company will also provide a ready market by making immediate payments for the cotton produced.
